Experience:

The candidate secured an off-campus internship opportunity through an HR contact from a previous hackathon. After an initial screening, the resume was shortlisted, leading to an assignment round. The assignment required developing a website with features like ReactJS, API integration, responsive design, error handling, local storage, debouncing, throttling, pagination, and hosting, to be completed in two days.

The technical interview was conducted by two senior SDEs and lasted approximately 90 minutes. It began with introductions, followed by the candidate rating themselves on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJS. The interview delved deeply into CSS for 20-25 minutes, covering topics like different ways to center a div, `display`, `position`, and the box model. JavaScript concepts such as closures, hoisting, event bubbling/capturing, and the use of `call` and `bind` functions were thoroughly tested, often requiring live coding explanations. In ReactJS, questions included lifecycle methods, virtual DOM, `useMemo`, `useCallback` hooks, and the difference between debouncing and throttling. The interviewer also advised on using React Query for local storage. Since the candidate had TypeScript experience, the reason behind Groww's migration from JavaScript to TypeScript was discussed. Behavioral questions included "Tell me about your developer journey," "Why Groww?", and preferences between App and Web development. The candidate was selected after this round.
