The candidate applied for the SDE Android Intern role through a Google Form in May 2025. In June 2025, an assignment was received.
Assignment: The task was to build a stock display app using Kotlin. The assignment was submitted in early July 2025.
Technical Interview: An interview call was received on July 22, 2025. Most of the discussion revolved around the assignment. The candidate explained the app, its architecture (MVVM pattern with Repository), and choices made. Specific questions included: "What is MVVM architecture?", "What happens when the user rotates the screen?", "What are lambda functions and their use cases?", "How did you implement the bottom navigation bar?", "What is dependency injection?", "How does your ViewModel help retain data across screen rotations?", and "What is the Activity lifecycle?". A scenario was presented: "If a screen shows a RecyclerView with payment options like PhonePe and Cash on Delivery, how would you ensure that only one card is selected at a time?" The candidate also discussed data handling, including caching and API call structure. Kotlin-specific questions included: "What is a data class?", "Can a data class be empty?", and "How is it different from a regular class?". The interviewer also inquired about numbers mentioned in the resume. Feedback indicated the candidate could have gone deeper into the "under the hood" workings.
