Experience:

The candidate described their interview experience with GE Vernova for a Senior Staff Software Engineer role as highly disorganized and discourteous from the start. They were asked last minute on a Friday to attend an interview the very next day, leaving little time to prepare.

During the interview, the interviewer kept their camera off while asking the candidate to keep theirs on, which was perceived as a lack of professional courtesy. The candidate was frequently interrupted, almost 10 times within the first 20 minutes, often mid-sentence, making it difficult to maintain a coherent explanation.

The interviewer abruptly shifted to asking for a Swiggy High-Level Design (HLD). During the requirement gathering phase, the candidate was cut off and told to "just make a replica of Swiggy." As the candidate began to build the diagram and explain their thought process, they were interrupted again and criticized for not having a service in place that they were in the process of explaining.

The final part of the interview rapidly turned into a checklist, asking the candidate to list all microservice patterns, all Java design patterns, and SOLID principles, with no room for discussion or practical depth. The overall experience felt more like an interrogation than an evaluation of problem-solving or design thinking, leaving a very poor impression of both the interviewer and the organization.
