Experience:

The candidate, a fourth-year Chemical Engineering student from Jadavpur University, was placed as a Graduate Engineer Trainee with ExxonMobil during their 2022 on-campus placement drive. The selection process involved three main rounds: a Technical Aptitude test, a Group Discussion, and a final Interview round (Technical + HR).

Technical Aptitude Round: This round consisted of 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes, with a difficulty range from easy to moderate. Key topics included Thermodynamics, Reaction Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer. The main challenge in this round was the time limit.

Group Discussion (GD) Round: The GD round emphasized effective communication rather than just fluent English or dominating the discussion. Moderators were present, and the focus was on calm, composed participation and well-reasoned arguments.

Main Interview Round: The interview panel consisted of three people. They explicitly stated that questions would be CV-based. The candidate's internship, training, and projects were thoroughly discussed, with technical questions stemming directly from these experiences. The advice given was to go through internship reports and training details very well, as interviewers will narrow down the scope and ask technical questions from those specific areas. Behavioral questions were also asked, such as "a challenging situation you faced in your life," with interviewers preferring examples from the candidate's CV. Overall, the interview was purely core-page focused on the candidate's training and projects.
