Experience:

This American Express Software Engineer interview experience from October 2024 involved four rounds.

Round 1: Coding Test
The coding test lasted 1 hour 30 minutes and comprised 3 easy to medium-level questions. Topics covered included Map, Graph, Sets, and String manipulation. The tip provided was to practice on LeetCode and strengthen DSA.

Round 2: Technical Interview 1
This round began with a self-introduction, followed by basic questions from C++ & Java programming languages and OOPS concepts. A coding problem was then presented: "Implement stack or Queue using arrays."

Round 3: Technical Interview 2
After an introduction, this round focused on a low-level design problem: "Design the database for a school." The interviewer posed different scenarios during the design discussion. Another coding problem asked was "Detect cycle in a linked list." The candidate then explained their projects, followed by basic questions about the projects and the working of BFS Algorithms. Questions related to hashmaps (data storage, collision avoidance) were also asked.

Round 4: HR Round
The HR round started with an introduction and then covered the experience in the technical rounds. Situational-based questions from the candidate's internship and projects were asked, along with questions about future plans. The interviewer also provided an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions. Tips included using the STAR method for situational questions, interacting more with the interviewer, asking clarifying questions, and providing accurate, to-the-point answers.
