Experience:

Commvault visited the campus for Software Development Engineer (Internship + Full Time) roles. Candidates had to choose between C++ or Java for SDE. The candidate chose C++.

Round 1: Online Assessment (65 minutes)

This round was conducted on the "geeekd" platform and served as a major screening round. It had two sections:

  • **Section 1 (MCQs):** 15 MCQs (25 minutes) based on the chosen language (C++). Questions covered output prediction, object-oriented concepts, pointers, operator overloading, scope resolution operator, and data file handling.
  • **Section 2 (Coding):** 3 programming questions (40 minutes) to be solved in C++ (with C++14 and STL allowed). The questions were similar to: "The longest palindromic substring problem", "Sum of the maximums for every window size in an array", and "Paint House problem". The candidate solved all problems correctly. Results were declared after 3 days.

Round 2: Long Coding Challenge / System Design (File System Design)

This was a challenging round involving both design and DSA knowledge. Candidates were asked to design a file system in their chosen language. Operations to implement included: Create a file, Delete a file, Copy a file to a given path, Move a file to a given path, Maintain multiple versions of the same file, and Revert to an older version. Before the round, senior officials explained the problem statement. In the first hour, candidates had to be ready with the design of their file system, filling provided classes with data members and member functions, and discussing it with an assigned mentor for approval. Mentors would ask candidates to leave if their design or coding progress was unsatisfactory. The candidate wrote a perfectly running code and was informed by the mentor that HR would contact them.

Round 3: Technical Interview

Two hours after Round 2, HR called the candidate for a Zoom meeting with panelists. The interview involved discussing the candidate's projects and explaining their working. Questions were also asked about overriding and OOPS concepts in C++, and some questions based on strings and pointers. The panelists were helpful and provided hints. After the interview, the candidate received an email from HR, senior officials, and panelists confirming selection.
