Infosys visited our campus for the Specialist Programmer hiring process. The first stage was an online coding assessment followed by an offline technical interview for the shortlisted candidates. Round 1: Online Assessment The OA had 3 coding problems with a total duration of 3 hours. The difficulty was around medium to hard. The problems covered arrays, trees, DP and XOR/bit manipulation. I was able to solve around 2.5 questions, which was enough to get shortlisted for the interview. Round 2: Technical Interview The technical interview was conducted offline and lasted around an hour. The interviewer first asked me to introduce myself and then went through my projects. He asked about the technologies I had used, the challenges I faced while building them, and why I had chosen particular technologies. After that, the discussion moved to DBMS and OOP. Questions included normalization, ACID properties, indexing, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction and encapsulation. I was also asked some SQL queries and DSA questions. The interviewer focused more on understanding my approach and fundamentals rather than just asking definitions. I was able to answer most of the questions, but I struggled with some of the follow-ups and wasn't able to explain a few concepts in enough depth. The interview ended after the technical round, and I was not selected for the Specialist Programmer role. Overall, the process was heavily focused on DSA, core CS fundamentals and projects. Preparing medium-hard DSA along with DBMS, OOP and SQL would be important for this role.
