Experience:

Siemens EDA visited the college in August for 6-month intern roles in Bengaluru/Noida. The CGPA criterion was 7.5.

Round 1: Online Assessment (HackerEarth, 1.5 hours)
This round was conducted in college labs with 111 students from CSE and ECE. It consisted of 42 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The pattern can vary, but this year there were no coding questions. MCQs covered aptitude (probability, basic math), basic C, C++, Java, and a few questions on digital circuits.

Suggestion: Do as many as you can, as fast as you can.

Round 2: Interview Round (MS Teams, 1 hour)
35 students were selected for this round. The interviewer was strict about the time limit. It began with a formal introduction and a 15-minute discussion about projects and internships on the resume.

  • Coding Question: Find Local Minima in an Array (medium level DSA problem). The candidate first proposed a brute-force approach and was asked to code it on an online compiler without syntax help.

The interviewer then asked to optimize the solution to O(log n) time complexity, which the candidate identified as achievable using binary search. They discussed the approach and edge cases for about 20 minutes, but the interviewer was more interested in the logic and didn't ask for the code for the optimized solution.

  • Puzzle 1: 5 Pirates and 100 Gold Coins. The candidate provided a satisfactory answer.
  • Puzzle 2 (Follow-up): A scenario with 15 pirates and 3 coins, asking to apply reasoning and discuss edge cases. The candidate gave a satisfactory answer with some hints.

The interview ended after the puzzle discussion.
