Experience:

The process for the Graduate Trainee Engineer role at Siemens in 2022 consisted of four rounds. The first round was an Online Assessment (60 minutes) with 32 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and no negative marking. Questions were predominantly from C/C++ outputs, Object-Oriented Principles (concepts of virtual inheritance, Java-specific keywords), Servlets (factory methods for instantiation), Data Interpretation from Graphs, Blood Relation, Time and Work, Profit Loss, Sets/Maps based MCQs, and Pointers based element extraction in 2D Arrays. The candidate focused on solving questions with higher mark weightage first. Out of 250+ students, 30 were shortlisted for interviews.

Round 2 was Technical Interview 1 (45 minutes). It started with an introduction, followed by a discussion of projects and internships. The candidate was asked to write an algorithm to sort an array of 0s and 1s. Initially, a two-pass counting sort was proposed, but the interviewer asked for optimization, leading to a one-pass Dutch Flag algorithm variation. A famous puzzle about paying an employee using a 7-unit gold rod with minimum cuts was also asked.

Round 3 was Technical Interview 2 (55 minutes). This round involved questions about family and the definition of 'Data Structures,' explained with an analogy. Questions on Heaps, a basic probability question, and how the candidate differentiated themselves from other students were also posed. The interviewer also inquired about finding bottlenecks in projects and structuring them.

Round 4 was an HR Discussion (30 minutes), which started with a basic introduction. Questions included asking about the best interview round, projects, preferences for teamwork or individual work, and general behavioral aspects. The candidate received an offer and was one of 4 selected from over 250 applicants.
