Rounds: 3 rounds

Topics Asked: Android basics (Activity, Fragments, Lifecycle), Push Notification, Firebase (Storage, Real-time storage), Coroutines, Kotlin questions (Java to Kotlin conversion), SOLID principles, Design Patterns (Factory, Builder, Singleton, Adapter), Architecture patterns (MVP, MVC, MVVM, Clean Architecture), System Design.

Experience:

Ankit, an Android Developer at Rapido, shared his interview experience which comprised three rounds: two Android-focused technical rounds and one hiring manager round.

First Technical Round: This round focused on basic Android concepts. Questions covered Activity and Fragment lifecycles, push notifications, and Firebase (including storage and real-time storage). The interviewer aimed to check if the candidate knew the terms and concepts, sometimes going into more detail if the candidate showed familiarity. Other topics included Coroutines (a trending topic in Android) and Kotlin, with a specific question on converting Java syntax to a more readable Kotlin format.

Second Technical Round: This round delved deeper into software engineering principles and architecture. The interviewer asked about SOLID principles and their definitions. Design patterns like Factory, Builder, Singleton, and Adapter were discussed, along with real-time use cases. Architecture patterns such as MVP, MVC, MVVM, and Clean Architecture were also covered, with an emphasis on their definitions and real-time examples. A significant part of this round involved a system design problem where the candidate had to design a solution following proper MVVM and Clean Architecture, incorporating applicable design patterns.

Hiring Manager Round: This round focused on behavioral aspects and managerial fit, with no technical questions.

Tips for aspiring Android developers included having clear basics, understanding why specific architectures or design patterns are used, and having a good grasp of SOLID principles.
