Experience:

NXP Semiconductors visited the DTU Campus for the recruitment of a 6-month Intern + FTE role for Software Engineer. Eligible students included B.Tech and M.Tech from CSE/IT/SE branches with a CGPA above 7. The process consisted of four rounds: Online Assessment, Technical Round 1, Technical Round 2, and HR Round.

Round 1: Online Assessment
This round was conducted on campus and comprised 65 MCQ-based questions to be completed in 60 minutes. Questions were mostly from C language code outputs, Operating Systems, Cryptography Basics, and Networking. Each question carried 3 marks with a 1-mark negative marking for incorrect answers. Approximately 30 students were shortlisted for interviews.

Round 2: Technical Round 1
This round focused on technical questions from C language and Operating Systems. Some questions asked were:

  • Storage Classes in C
  • Volatile Keyword
  • Const Keyword
  • Usage of Volatile and Const Keywords in real life (e.g., Reading Data from Pen drives)
  • C Program Compilation Stages
  • Struct vs Union
  • Pass By Value and Pass By Reference for Pointers
  • Calculate the Size of the struct without using the inbuilt function (using pointer arithmetic)
  • What are the Different roles/components of OS?
  • What is Inter-Process Communication? Its Types. Explain.
  • Scheduling Algorithms
  • Types of Memory
  • Hierarchy of Memory in Computers
Coding questions included:
  • Program To Sort Array of 0s and 1s
  • Write `strcmp()` function using `char` pointers
  • Swap the First and Last Byte of a Number
  • Set a specific Bit in A number
Three students were selected for the next round.

Round 3: Technical Round 2
This round was conducted by two Senior Engineers and focused on C and Operating Systems basics and the candidate's interests. Questions asked included:

  • Macro to Multiply two Arithmetic Expressions
  • Stages of C program Compilation
  • Scenario: Two overlapping blocks of Memory, copy data from one block to another
  • Process Context
  • Swapping Of Process
  • Need of OS

Round 4: HR Round
This round involved basic HR questions such as positive and negative points, family background, and reasons for career choices.
