Rounds: 1 round (Technical Interview)

Topics Asked: DSA, Low-Level Design, Past Work Experience

Experience:

The candidate, with approximately 4 years of experience, appeared for an interview for the MTS-3 role at Nutanix after receiving a referral.

Round 1: Technical Interview: The interview began with introductions. The interviewer (MTS-4 with 10 years of experience) stated that 10 minutes would be spent on past work, followed by two DSA problems. The candidate summarized their work at the previous organization. The DSA questions were described as "softballs." The first one took less than 10 minutes, with a focus on code quality. The second problem took slightly more time, and the candidate got a bit stuck but believed multisource BFS was the solution, which the interviewer seemed convinced by. The interviewer did not seem very professional, switching off the camera and leaving during the 50-minute interview.

A week later, the candidate received a "mild yes" from the interviewer but was ultimately rejected without further rounds. The recruiter stated that while algorithmic ability was rated good, the low-level design aspect, as observed from previous experience, was not strong enough, and Nutanix takes design skills very seriously. The candidate felt that 10 minutes was insufficient to assess past work experience thoroughly, especially without probing questions.
