Experience:

Onix visited the campus exclusively for CSE students, offering a 6-month internship with a Pre-Placement Offer (PPO). The eligibility criteria included 65% marks in 10th and 12th grades and a 7+ CGPA until the last semester. The roles offered were SQL Engineer, Java Engineer, and Python Engineer.

Round 1: Online Assessment (OA)
This round was conducted on Onix's proprietary platform. It comprised simple questions based on CS fundamentals, mathematics, and reasoning. The test was divided into sections covering Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and DBMS. Additionally, there was a simple DSA problem to be solved in Java. The problem included a pre-written base snippet with defined functions, and candidates only needed to write the logic. The candidate, despite not knowing Java well, could solve the problem as it focused solely on logic. Out of all participants, 4 students, including the candidate, advanced to the interview process.

Round 2: Technical Interview
This round was conducted online with a single interviewer and lasted about 1 hour.

  • DSA Problem: The candidate was asked to write the full code for Merge Sort in a plain text editor.
  • CS Fundamentals and OOPs: Basic conceptual questions from Operating Systems, DBMS, and Computer Networks were asked.
  • OOPs Problem: Implement a solution for calculating the area and perimeter of various shapes using an abstract class and pure virtual functions.
  • DBMS: Questions on ways to fetch data and follow-up queries were posed. A scenario involved writing an SQL query to fetch data from a table located in another database.
  • Computer Networks: Questions on classful addressing and other core concepts were discussed.
  • Logic-Based Questions: The interviewer asked for the logic to find the height of a binary tree.

Only the interviewed candidate was selected for the next round.

Round 3: Technical + Managerial Interview
This was the final round, conducted by a highly experienced interviewer.

  • Technical Discussion: The interviewer started by testing the candidate's knowledge of C++, their preferred programming language. He presented a research paper's code with 6-7 files of Regex and asked questions about specific lines and functions. When the candidate admitted limited experience with Regex, the interviewer acknowledged its difficulty but guided them through the discussion.
  • Managerial Discussion: The interviewer asked about the candidate's hobbies and personal interests. For the next 45 minutes, the discussion felt like a UPSC interview, challenging the candidate's problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Final Verdict: After all the rounds, the candidate was the only student from their college to be selected. The experience highlighted the importance of confidence, adaptability, and a positive attitude during interviews.
