Experience:

This candidate, with 14 months of experience, was contacted by Myntra HR through Instahire for an SDE-1 Frontend Engineer position in September 2024. The interview process consisted of three rounds.

Round 1: DSA and JavaScript Questions: This round started with a DSA problem, followed by JavaScript questions.

• DSA Problem: "First Missing Positive" problem. The candidate implemented an efficient solution.
• JavaScript Questions:
  • Performance benefits of using promises.
  • Explanation of a code snippet and predicting its output.
  • Topics like the Virtual DOM and reconciliation.
  • JavaScript's concurrency model, event loop, and lifecycle hooks.

Round 2: DSA, JavaScript, and CSS Questions: This round involved two DSA problems, a JavaScript code snippet evaluation, and a CSS question.

• DSA Problems:
  • Minimum number of bit replacements to convert one binary string to another.
  • Set Matrix Zero problem.
• JavaScript Question: Evaluate a JavaScript code snippet and explain its output, focusing on pass by value vs. pass by reference.
• CSS Question: How to apply CSS media queries effectively.

Round 3: Projects and HLD Design Discussion: This round began with a discussion of the candidate's recent projects, including details of work and challenges overcome.

• High-Level Design: Design a payment system. The interviewer presented scenarios where initial solutions fell short, pushing for deeper thinking. The problem was narrowed down to a cash-on-delivery payment system, for which a revised solution was offered.
• Discussion on CAPTCHA generation and authentication.
• Behavioral questions: How did you transition from an Electrical Engineering graduate to a Software Developer? Career aspirations and goals.

Overall Experience: The candidate received and accepted the offer for the SDE-1 position.
