Experience:

The candidate interviewed for a Senior Software Engineer position in November 2023. The process involved 6 rounds.

Round 1: Karat Screening Round

This round was conducted on the Karat platform. It started with a 5-minute introduction, followed by 20 minutes of 5 rapid-fire system design problems (debugging rather than diagramming). Then, 30 minutes were allocated for two data structure problems (easy, medium).

Round 2: Data Structures Round

This 45-minute round was taken by a Senior Software Engineer. The problem was explained, and the candidate discussed the solution. The candidate mentioned being "much less prepared" for this round, which led to not moving forward in the process.

Subsequent Rounds (Not Reached by Candidate):

The full interview process for this role also included:

  • Low Level Design round (coding)
  • System Design round (diagrammatic mostly)
  • Values round (discussion)
  • Management round (discussion)

The candidate noted that interviews test the ability to solve problems fast, which requires extensive practice.
