McKinsey conducted an on-campus recruitment drive in 2024 for the Junior Software Developer role, offering both internship and full-time opportunities.

Round 1 was a HackerRank coding test for around 400 eligible students. It consisted of two questions: one array-related and one string-related, both at an easy to medium difficulty level.

Round 2 was a code pair round with a McKinsey employee, also conducted on HackerRank. The interviewer selected two coding questions, which could be medium-level string manipulation, dynamic programming, or tree-related. Candidates were expected to explain their approach, get approval, and then code, also discussing time complexities. After successfully solving both coding questions, technical questions were asked.

Round 3 varied slightly among candidates but generally involved another code pair round with one medium-level array coding question. Following the coding, a medium-level SQL query was asked, and then questions from the candidate's resume, particularly about projects.

Round 4 was with a Manager, combining technical and HR aspects. It began with behavioral questions and then moved to technical questions focused on computer fundamentals. Specific technical questions covered OOPs (Abstraction, Encapsulation, Polymorphism), DBMS (various normal forms, Primary Keys), DSA (basic data structures), and OS (multi-threading, process, semaphores, mutex locks). Behavioral questions included career goals and situational questions to assess leadership and teamwork. The interview process was described as smooth.
