Experience:

This interview experience for an AI Software Solutions Engineer position at Intel's Habana.ai began with the candidate finding a hiring post on LinkedIn in February 2024 and applying through a referral.

The first round was a 45-minute Phone Screening with the hiring manager. This was an informal discussion covering the candidate's previous work, technical expertise, and the responsibilities of the role. It also provided an opportunity to learn about the team structure and available positions across sister teams.

The second round was the Technical Interview. After introductions, the interviewer posed two challenging problems:

  • Minimal Subarray Sum: Given an array of positive integers and a target, find the minimal length of a contiguous subarray whose sum is greater than or equal to the target. The candidate initially explained a brute-force solution, then optimized it using a two-pointer approach, and finally coded the complete solution with comments, which impressed the interviewer.
  • The second problem focused on Systems Design, involving discussions about design choices, API design, and scalability.

Additional topics covered included Machine Learning concepts, model deployment, MLOps, and a strong emphasis on C++ proficiency for MLE roles, even if Python is the primary language.

Key takeaways from the experience emphasized DSA preparation (easy to medium difficulty, escalating in later rounds), thorough knowledge of one's resume, effective communication of thought processes, and the importance of clear pseudo-code.
